Happy New Year

Happy New Year everyone!

I have been very silent lately trying to handle my mental health and had some family go to the hospital. We just buried my cousin yesterday, so it has been tough. But thankfully with therapy and medicine I am doing better and ready to take on 2021 with a better attitude! My husband has challenged me to read 120 books this year. I haven’t read that many in a long time! I think I am up for the challenge though.

I also have started two new challenges this year. One is 2,021 miles in 2021 (we do them in teams) and the other is to drink more water than anything else for the whole month of January. That is about all of the updates on me. What are your plans? What are you challenging yourself with? Let me know in the comments!

This book for me just didn’t do it. I started reading it and got into it pretty well but about halfway through it lost my interest. I could not care about the characters in it especially the main character. She just didn’t click for me to relate to or understand. If you like young adult mystery you may like this book but I just could not finish it.

Two out of Five stars.

Hello everyone! It has been a while but I am back and wanted to rave about this book. I bought it after I watched the Netflix series because I really wanted to read this unique book. It is about a bookseller who becomes obsessed with this aspiring writer. Which appeals to me greatly since I read and write. I just loved the idea of it. It was something new and something I had never heard of before the tv series.

I won’t lie it sat on my shelf for a while because I really didn’t want to ruin the tv show or book becuase one didn’t complement the other. I will say I am pleasantly surprised with how well they stayed with the story. They kept to it really well. The only major differences is the kid in the apartment building and how some of the people (spoiler alert!) died.

Now this is where you stop reading if you don’t want spoilers.

It really goes into his thoughts and what he thinks. It isn’t so immersive in both of them but in him. Which I like better because he doesn’t seem so personable and more obsessive where the tv show made him seem more friendly. He doesn’t have the kid in the apartment building he is helping out so that makes him seem less nice and makes you more aware of his crazy tendencies. The timeline shortens which is to be expected. You don’t have about 12 hours of television to tell a story. You have about 400 pages to tell the whole thing. You can be more or less descriptive of what is going on. Focus on what you want to instead of the whole picture. All in all this book was spot on and I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. I started reading the sequel and can’t wait to see what they do for season 2 of this on Netflix.

Five out of five stars!

How to Disappear

This book is actually the first book I finished in the whole month of March. I just can’t seem to find that one book that makes me pick it up and run with it. But I will say that I enjoyed this book. Towards the end of it when I realized it was coming to an end I was slightly upset. I also felt the ending was a little rushed though. It seemed the author did a later down the road with the last two chapters and it really didn’t seem to hold to the book. It was almost out of place.

Other than that I don’t really have many complaints about this book. I enjoyed the story line and how it was written. Again felt a little rushed in some places but overall not bad. I can safely give this book a full four stars and be quite happy with it.

Happy New Year!

I apologize for being gone for so long but I had so much to do for the holidays and needed a break! I happily reached my reading goal this past year and set a small 60 book goal for this year since I have lots of plans.

I have multiple hobbies and they tend to take a lot of time to plan and work around my schedule which can affect my reading and my blogging so I may not do a post every week but I will aim for once a month!

I already read my first book of the year. I read Wild Rain by Christine Feehan. I tried this book because I love her Carpathian series but I can tell this book and series just is not for me. I give her three stars but thats really as much as I can give for the book. I just didn’t care for the characters but her writing was about the same.

That it’s all I have for now! See you next time. 🙂

Three girls with three deadly secrets. Only one can wear the crown.

The king is dying, his heir has just been murdered, and rebellion brews in the east. But the kingdom of Kolonya and the outer Reaches has one last option before it descends into leaderless chaos.

Or rather, three unexpected options.

Zofi has spent her entire life trekking through the outer Reaches with her band of Travelers. She would do anything to protect the band, her family. But no one can ever find out how far she’s already gone.

Akeylah was raised in the Eastern Reach, surrounded by whispers of rebellion and abused by her father. Desperate to escape, she makes a decision that threatens the whole kingdom.

Ren grew up in Kolonya, serving as a lady’s maid and scheming her way out of the servants’ chambers. But one such plot could get her hung for treason if anyone ever discovers what she’s done.

When the king summons the girls, they arrive expecting arrest or even execution. Instead they learn the truth: they are his illegitimate daughters, and one must become his new heir. But someone in Kolonya knows their secrets, and that someone will stop at nothing to keep the sisters from their destiny… to rule.

Magic, mystery, and blackmail abound in this sensational and striking fantasy debut.

This book was so good! I enjoyed every chapter! I couldn’t get into Three Dark Crowns so when it said it was kind of like that with a twist I went into it skeptical but it ended up really well! The cover also intrigued me because it reminded me of Furyborn and I couldn’t stop staring at it.

All three girls come from lower class and have deadly secrets they hold dear. But what they do to keep those secrets keeps the pages turning and keeps you wanting more. The three sisters make do with the family they have from a father who is trying to make amends to an aunt who seems horrible and doesn’t seem to like them. As each challenge arises they fight to keep their secrets hidden and gain the crown I guarantee you won’t see the ending coming.

Reign of Mist

Book cover (Reign of Mist)

What can I say about this book that isn’t going to spoil it? The fact that it is the perfect sequel? That you will be shocked and appalled and love every dang minute of this book? That if I could buy a book for every one of my readers so they can read it?

This stunning sequel flips between Bleak and Henri as their adventure unfolds. A mad king on their tail and a mission to save. This book brings it all together and as Bleak finds a new friend within the mist she also finds the answers she seeks. It was an amazing installment within this series that if I try to say more I will bust it wide open for everyone!

Five out of five stars!

Crazy Rich Asians

I read this book because I wanted to know about the book before I watched the movie. I am very big on reading books before the movie. I know that usually this is how you end up disappointed but I really prefer it this way.

At first, it was annoying to have to read footnotes in the middle of the story because it took me a moment to catch my momentum in it. Eventually, I caught on and it wasn’t so bad. This book was really good! I loved what happened in the book. There were moments when I laughed out loud. Mostly the best friend of Rachel kept me laughing.

Now this book does jump from different character to character to tell the story but I don’t mind this. If you do you might not care too much about this book. Rachel is a down to earth character who gets thrown into a world of Crazy Rich Asians and is blindsided by all of this because her boyfriend doesn’t prepare her. Normally this would be something that would make you hate him but he is really blind to the fact they are that rich due to him being raised not to discuss fortunes.

The best friend makes the story for me because she is hilarious and I hope they do her justice in the movie! I can honestly say she is my favorite character and I don’t think anyone can change my mind on that. She is eccentric in all the best ways. I HIGHLY recommend this book! I cannot believe it was published in 2013 and is just now getting major recognition!

I cannot wait to read the next book. Five out of five stars!

 Praise for Follow Me Back

“Debut author Geiger’s social-media-saturated thriller (which fittingly got its start on Wattpad) should transfix teens for whom online relationships (romantic and otherwise) are integral parts of daily life, and catfishing and hacking are genuine fears. Tweets, direct messages, and police interrogation transcripts are incorporated throughout, throwing the reliability of both narrators into question and hinting at the sinister thread underlying this boy-meets-girl story. ” – Publishers Weekly

“Pieces are revealed one at a time until they all come together at the end-right before everything falls apart before a final, dark twist. A page-turner for young adults invested in social media, fandoms, and mysteries.” – School Library Journal

“Told though alternating points of view, tweets, and police reports, this novel is perfect for fans of Sara Shepard, April Henry, or Kimberly Derting. In her debut novel, Geiger creates a rich horror story which is all the more intriguing because of its conceivable possibilities. Using fan culture and social media communications to the best effect, she makes the setting and plot convincingly real.” – VOYA Magazine

Follow Me Back is the perfect mix of fandom with just the right amount of suspense. An enthralling page-turner from beginning to end.” Anna Todd, New York Times bestselling author of the After series

“Timely, twisty, and totally thrilling. Follow Me Back will have readers wondering about the identity of every online friend and follower they’ve got. A riveting read that will keep you up late and keep you guessing!” Paula Stokes, author of Liars, Inc. and Vicarious

“Dark and suspenseful, Follow Me Back is sure to be the next big thing in YA Thrillers.” Ali Novak, author of The Heartbreak Chronicles and My Life with the Walter Boys

Follow Me Back is an unforgettable page-turner, and a cautionary tale for any fan who’s ever wished that their favorite celebrity followed them on social media.” Sandy Hall, author of Signs Point to Yes and A Little Something Different

“Follow Me Back is a mystery/thriller/suspense roller coaster ride that keeps readers on their toes. Jaw-droppingly twisty and continually surprising.” – Laurie Elizabeth Flynn, author of Firsts

My Review

I am back with another blog tour! This one is the sequel to Follow Me Back. This book was an amazing sequel to the Twitter story. It uses Social Media to tell a story that most would balk at trying to write. The whole storyline keeps you hanging onto your seat wondering what is next. The whole storyline gets a full five stars! I plan to reread both books this summer to enjoy the twists and turns all over again.
